Lodi Learns about Leopold

Workshop for Educators & all interested persons

Held at the Lodi Public Library in Lodi, WI, on Friday, March 5th, from 9 am to 3 pm, this hands-on/minds-on workshop will discuss the philosophy of Aldo Leopold and the problems of teaching students to understand humanity’s ties to the natural environment. The Leopold Education Project curriculum, based on Leopold’s classic writings in A Sand County Almanac, is adaptable for grades 4 through 12. Lessons are correlated to the Wisconsin Academic Standards. A $15 fee includes lunch, the curriculum “Lessons in a Land Ethic”, a personal copy of Leopold’s A Sand County Almanac, and a wealth of handouts. Also included is a free trip to Aldo Leopold’s Shack on Saturday, March 6th, as part of the celebration of “Lodi Reads Leopold”.

Activities, closely tied to chapters of Aldo Leopold’s literary classic, A Sand County Almanac, have a seasonal theme that incorporates both the teaching of an aesthetic appreciation of the earth and an understanding of its scientific workings. 6 DPI clock hours are available to those who attend the entire workshop. Funding for substitute teachers available on a limited basis.
