We are pleased that Dr. Curt Meine will be with us to start our celebration
with a presentation titled, “The Life and Legacy of Aldo Leopold.” Dr. Meine
will draw on his extensive knowledge of Leopold to share a biographical
perspective of Aldo Leopold’s life and will discuss why and how Leopold’s legacy
has continued to grow and expand.
Dr. Meine is a conservation biologist and a writer. He serves as Senior
Fellow with the Aldo Leopold Foundation in Baraboo, Wisconsin; Research
Associate with the International Crane Foundation, also located in Baraboo; and
Director of Conservation Biology and History with the Chicago-based Center for
Humans and Nature. He is also an Associate Adjunct Professor in the University
of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Wildlife Ecology.
Saturday, March 1, 2008
The first full weekend in March has been commemorated by the Wisconsin State
Legislature and Governor James Doyle as Aldo Leopold Weekend, a time to
celebrate the life and works of this Wisconsin conservation leader. The
legislation for Aldo Leopold Weekend grew out of the Lodi Reads Leopold event
that began in March of 2000.
Lodi Reads Leopold continues this year with an all-day event on Saturday,
March 1st. The schedule and contact information follows. The readings and
community forum are free and will take place at the Lodi Woman’s Club Public
Library, 130 Lodi Street in Lodi. A free will monetary donation is requested for
the lunch, with all donations to be given to the Lodi Food Pantry. Lunch will be
served at the Masonic Lodge on First Street, just across from the post office.
