On March 4, 1948 Aldo Leopold opened the introduction to A Sand County Almanac as follows: "There are some who can live without wild things and some who cannot. These essays are the delights and dilemmas of one who cannot."

In March 2010 --- sixty-two years after Leopold wrote those words --- people from the Lodi area will come together once again to celebrate Aldo Leopolds legacy. The 11th Annual Lodi Reads Leopold event will be a month-long opportunity to share the words of Leopold and talk about what those words mean for the Lodi Valley. Come celebrate Aldo Leopold with an event created for those "who cannot live without wild things."

The 2010 Lodi Reads Leopold event will consist of two parts. On Saturday, March 6, there will be a community forum at the Lodi Women's Club Library that will focus on "Homegrown Meals: How can Lodi citizens eat nutritional and locally-produced food?" In addition, volunteer readers will be attending meetings of local organizations throughout the month of March to read the words of Leopold.
